Reiki
Reiki is Energy
Energy is often described by various different words, like chi, vibration, magnetism, bioenergetics, aura, etc.
Reiki is a field of practice which has generally evolved from the laying of hands healing.
Some basic premises of Reiki include that the body is made of energy, that energy flows through the body, each individual holds their own vibrational energy, energy of bodies can be changed, energy can be influenced by our conscious thought, and energy can be guided to influence other energy fields beyond our own. Reiki is a system which can be taught, learned, and attuned to by a master where energy is guided to influence positive healing within and beyond our self. This raises the energy of both giver and receiver of Reiki. A unique aspect of Reiki opposed to some forms of energy work is that Reiki is not a horizontal movement of energy, or transactional. Reiki is channeled energy directly from the source. It is traditionally seen and described as divine energy and is not limited to a particular belief or faith. Any religious beliefs may be held by both practitioner and receiver of Reiki. The premise of source is that some may call it God, it simply is the source, the energy we all come from and which binds us all together.
Reiki can be physically and extra-physically felt. It can be described like magnets moving through the body, sensations of movement without visible movement. Forces interacting and feelings of lightness and warmth are common during Reiki treatments, even if there is no physical contact.
Reiki is a form of alternative therapy that originated in Japan and is based on the concept of energy healing. The word "Reiki" is derived from two Japanese words: "Rei," meaning light or universal higher power, and "Ki," meaning life force energy. In Reiki, practitioners believe that a universal life force energy flows through all living things, and when this energy is balanced and flowing freely, individuals experience health and well-being. Reiki seeks to balance and harmonize the energy within and around the body to promote healing.
Principles of Reiki:
Universal Life Force Energy:
Reiki is based on the belief that there is a universal life force energy that flows through every living thing. This energy is also known as "Ki" in Japanese or "Chi" in Chinese. It is considered the vital force that sustains life.
Channelling Energy:
Reiki practitioners are trained to channel this universal energy through their hands to the recipient. The practitioner acts as a conduit and channel, allowing the energy to flow through them and into the client.
Holistic Approach:
Reiki views the body, mind, and spirit as interconnected. Imbalances or blockages in the energy flow are believed to manifest as physical, emotional, or mental issues. Reiki aims to address these imbalances on all levels for holistic healing.
Intelligent Energy:
Reiki energy is considered intelligent and knows where it is needed most. Practitioners don't direct the energy; rather, they trust that it will flow to the areas requiring healing, promoting a natural and intuitive process.
Basic Reiki Healing Session:
Preparation:
Both the practitioner and the client typically begin by setting a calm and focused intention for the session. The client may lie down or sit comfortably, fully clothed, while the practitioner may lightly place their hands on or above the client's body.
Hand Positions:
Reiki practitioners use specific hand positions that correspond to energy centers or chakras on the body. These hand positions are intended to facilitate the flow of energy and address any blockages or imbalances.
Energy Flow:
The practitioner channels Reiki energy through their hands, either with light touch or without physical contact. The energy is believed to flow through the practitioner's hands to the client, promoting relaxation and a sense of well-being.
Intuitive Guidance:
Practitioners may also use their intuition to guide them to areas of the body that require more attention. This intuitive aspect allows for a personalized and client-centered approach to healing.
Release and Balancing:
The aim of a Reiki session is to release energetic blockages, balance the flow of energy, and promote a state of relaxation and harmony. Clients may experience sensations of warmth, tingling, or deep relaxation during a session.
Post-Session Discussion:
After the session, practitioners and clients may discuss their experiences. Some individuals report feelings of calm, reduced stress, and improved well-being. Others may have insights or emotional releases during or after the session.
Reiki Principles:
Reiki is often associated with five principles that serve as a guide for living a balanced and harmonious life. These principles are:
Just for today, I will not be angry.
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will be grateful.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.
These principles are not only applied during Reiki sessions but are encouraged as daily affirmations for a positive and mindful approach to life.
It's important to note that while many people find Reiki to be a relaxing and beneficial practice, scientific evidence supporting its efficacy is limited. Reiki is often considered a complementary therapy and is not considered as a substitute for conventional medical care. Individuals interested in Reiki should seek out qualified and experienced practitioners and communicate openly about their expectations and experiences.
